Automatic Gate Accident Statistics — Federal Data

CPSC estimated about 300 emergency-room injuries per year during 2011–2015. Fourteen OSHA Investigation Summaries from 1988–2021 are individually verified and downloadable as a structured dataset in CSV and JSON. Includes a full methodology, inclusion rules, outcome coding, and links to every primary record. Verified July 25, 2026.

Methodology

All records included in this research section meet three criteria: the primary source document is publicly accessible from a U.S. federal agency, the record pertains specifically to automatic or motorized vehicular gate incidents (not forklifts, general machinery, or non-gate barriers), and the outcome — injury, fatality, entrapment, or near-miss — is stated rather than inferred. Where a record is ambiguous or the primary document is no longer accessible, it is noted rather than silently excluded.

Datasets are published in CSV and JSON formats under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0). Column definitions, version history, and data-quality notes appear within each dataset page.

What this section does not include

Research pages on this site contain no repair guidance, diagnostic steps, or commercial recommendations. They do not assert that a particular contractor, product, or standard is required for any specific property — those determinations belong to a licensed provider and the relevant jurisdiction. For practical reference documents (permit sources, licensing, fire access, and safety standards), see the automatic gate resources index.
